Baidu Apollo Donates Eight Autonomous Vehicles to Wuhan University

On the afternoon of March 26, a donation ceremony was held at the university, where Baidu Apollo donated eight autonomous vehicles to the School of Artificial Intelligence and the School of Computer Science at Wuhan University. These vehicles will support research and teaching activities within the two schools, injecting new momentum into the university’s research in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving.

During the ceremony, Bian Jinluan, Party Secretary of the School, highlighted that in recent years, the School of Computer Science and the School of Artificial Intelligence at Wuhan University have been closely aligning with national strategic needs, continuously strengthening pioneering innovation, and striving to advance the "Double First-Class" initiative. Significant breakthroughs have been achieved in the field of information technology. The autonomous vehicles donated by Baidu Apollo will provide strong support for the schools’ research and teaching efforts, helping to enhance research levels in intelligent and unmanned systems.

At the signing ceremony, Li Tao, General Manager of Operations and Head of Autonomous Driving Products at Baidu Intelligent Driving Group, Ye Linna, Deputy Secretary-General of the Wuhan University Education Development Foundation, and Bian Jinluan signed the donation agreement as representatives. Ye Linna presented Li Tao with a donation certificate, marking the official commencement of this tripartite collaboration.

This donation represents Baidu Apollo’s commitment to social responsibility and its effort to promote deep integration between industry, academia, and research. It also marks a new starting point for comprehensive collaboration between the university and Baidu Apollo in talent cultivation and technological innovation. Moving forward, Baidu Apollo will continue to deepen cooperation with Wuhan University’s School of Artificial Intelligence and School of Computer Science in areas such as talent training and research projects. Together, they aim to explore innovative applications of intelligent and unmanned system technologies, provide theoretical and technological support for solving key industry challenges, and contribute to national scientific and technological progress as well as social development.

Following the ceremony, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on research collaboration and talent cultivation. Professor Dong Wenyong from the School of Computer Science, Associate Professor Chen Jinfu from the same school, and Associate Researcher Li Ming from the School of Artificial Intelligence introduced their research foundations and recent achievements, further discussing the role that autonomous vehicles will play in research and teaching.

Li Tao expressed his hope that this opportunity would lead to a long-term and stable partnership between Baidu Apollo and the two schools, jointly cultivating top-tier professionals in the field and advancing the continuous development of intelligent driving technology.
