On January 6, the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Conference was held in Wuhan, where the Decision of the Hubei Provincial People's Government on the 2024 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Awards was announced. A team led by Professor Xia Guisong from our college won the First Prize of the Hubei Provincial Natural Science Award.
Professor Xia’s team systematically developed a deep learning framework for intelligent remote sensing image interpretation, addressing the scientific challenge of transforming raw data into actionable knowledge. Their achievements include:
Constructing multi-granularity, large-scale benchmark datasets for remote sensing;
Developing a multidimensional rotating-frame object detection model;
Creating a hierarchical method for scene and feature classification.
These innovations have been applied in earth observation, national security, disaster response, and smart city development, advancing global research in remote sensing AI.At the conference, Wuhan University received one Outstanding Contribution Award, two Youth Science and Technology Innovation Awards, and 29 additional prizes (7 first-class, 17 second-class, and 5 third-class).
